Welcome to the Ma-Ya Karate Academy Website. The academy is made up of Swanwick Karate Club and Tupton Karate Club.

Swanwick Club started in January 2006 and is in Swanwick, near Alfreton. Alfreton is in Derbyshire in the Amber Valley district. Tupton Club started in September 2008. Tupton is near Chesterfield Derbyshire in the district of North East Derbyshire.

Karate is an exciting sport, but is so much more than a sport, it’s a martial art, a lifestyle.

Ma-Ya Karate Academy has a First Aider, a Child Protection Policy and Instructors are CRB checked, so your children will be safe and looked after.

Students are given the opportunity to compete nationally and if they are selected for the to Wado-Kai England squad, they can compete internationally.

The Academy is affiliated to Wado Aiwakai Karate-do Federation and Budo Karate Shinkokai. Both have direct links to Japan and the Japan Karate-Do Federation (JKF). Aiwakai Karate-do Federation is affiliated to Wado-Kai England and the English Karate Federation.

Jamie Ellson, the Chief Instructor of Ma-Ya Karate Academy is also available for group/school/private lessons in:
